In 2005, the Asia Pacific Privacy Authorities (APPA) started Privacy Awareness Week. This initiative promotes privacy awareness and protecting personal information. The PAW initiative is celebrated across the globe, and each APPA member chooses the week in May to promote.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has several resources to help consumers stay on top of their privacy and online security. The resources include tips for using cryptocurrencies and warnings about online imposters posing as representatives from various governing agencies. There are also links to cautionary tales reported to the FTC and facts about recent breaches.

Take advantage of this special week to check yourself and your institution to ensure you are practicing safety and security, online and off.
