Bob Martin, a MOREnet technical trainer, is now a Nearpod Certified Educator. Below Bob talks about the certification process, why you would want to get certified and the consortium discount MOREnet has negotiated with Nearpod.
I recently went through the process of becoming a Nearpod Certified Educator. I wanted to share a little bit of my experience with the process, as well as what it means to get certification.
I have several certifications. Some more rigorous than others. On a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being watch a video and answer a question, and 10 being pay money, travel for multiple days, take a test and be evaluated, I would place the Nearpod certification at about a 4. This is a good thing though!
Becoming certified is an easy, 3 step process. First you have to attend a webinar to learn about the features and uses of Nearpod. Second, you create a lesson using as many of the Nearpod tools as are appropriate to the delivery of your content. Finally, you have to deliver that lesson to at least 15 students. The Nearpod team will then evaluate your presentation for content and use, and look at your lesson reports to confirm your numbers (they don’t really care about numbers of right and wrong answers, just that you met their attendance requirements). And that is it! I was notified quickly about my results and welcomed to the community.
Here is where you can go to learn more and get your certification:
Why Get Certified?
There are many reasons to get certified. Nearpod lists their reasons as things like, access to the Nearpod community of educators, first notification of new features, potential to teach Nearpod sessions, upgrade to a better subscription level, etc.
However, I think there is more to getting certified than that. I think at a professional level, it shows your administration that you understand the tool deeper, that you have taken the initiative to make this tool do more work for your classroom and your students. And at a personal level, having certification gives you confidence that you can wield this technology in your classroom.
A Bit More About Nearpod
Nearpod is a cross platform (meaning it can be used on any device), interactive presentation creating tool. You can build your presentations and add Nearpod’s interactive slides (Q&A, Collaboration, Quizzes, Websites, Videos and MUCH more), or you can import slide presentations you have already created and then add interactivity to them. Delivery is all web based and seamless. Students simply enter the code for the presentation and they are in. You can track their progress, monitor their attendance and get reports for your class and how they participated as well as quiz results. Very powerful and fun to use, students benefit from deeper learning and more opportunities to collaborate. Nearpod offers a free version but it lacks a couple of key features and you do not have access to reports.
If your school does not have Nearpod, MOREnet has negotiated consortium discount pricing with them that can offer substantial savings! Check it out here:
